Welcome
Trusted Local Sparkies for Malabar Homes
We are the local electricians for the quiet beachside pocket at the head of Long Bay. Licensed, insured, and we turn up when we say.
Our work runs under NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C, and we are Master Electricians Australia members.
You get a fixed written price before we start, and it does not drift afterwards. Who you are actually getting.
One Local Team, Every Electrical Service Covered
Six services, one licensed crew, and the same standard across all of them. Everything we install goes in to the AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules, using Clipsal and Hager switchgear, not cheap imports.
Start wherever your problem is.
Switchboard Upgrades
Old boards fill up long before they wear out. A switchboard upgrade puts RCBOs on your circuits, labels every one of them, and gets tested and certified before we pack up.
Light Installation
We fit downlights, pendants, dimmers and security floodlights. Light installation is the job that changes a room most for the least money, and we talk the options through on site.
EV Charger Installation
Houses with driveways line Franklin Street, which is exactly where home charging makes sense. EV charger installation means checking the board has headroom first, then giving the charger its own dedicated run back to it.
Emergency Electrician
Burning smells and dead power keep their own hours. Our emergency electrician cover holds through the night and the weekend for genuine emergencies, and a licensed sparkie works out what you are dealing with before a van moves.
Level 2 Electrician
Some faults live past your meter, where an ordinary electrical licence stops. Our Level 2 electrician accreditation covers consumer mains, service lines above and below ground, meter connections and defect rectification.
Residential Electrician
Fans, smoke alarms, extra outlets and full rewires. That everyday list is what a residential electrician is for, and the small stuff gets a written price the same as the big stuff.
Local knowledge
Local Knowledge, From Federation Wiring to New Builds
Malabar dates from the early 1900s, when the tram line finally arrived at the Coast Hospital, and the street grid still shows it. Quiet wide streets, interwar and Federation-era brick cottages, and post-war infill filling the gaps between them.
Low-rise blocks exist, but only a scattering of them. The pattern has held for a century.
That history is the whole job, because wiring ages with the house it sits in.
The cottages. Prince Edward Street and Bay Parade are lined with them, and their circuits were laid out for a kettle, a wireless and a couple of lamps.
That is a very different house to the one people live in now.
The renovations. Coastal renovations and added appliances are what push the demand for switchboard upgrades in that older stock.
A second oven here, a room built out the back there, and the board has nothing left to give.
The newer builds. Capacity is already there, so the questions change: circuits for a charger, data through the walls, lighting out the back.
None of that is guesswork. We open the board, see what is really in it, and tell you what the house needs rather than what is easiest to sell.
The Safety Switch Gap in Older Malabar Houses
The safety switch is the thing that trips before you do.
Older houses here that were never rewired frequently have none at all, on any circuit. The wiring can look perfectly tidy and still leave nothing between a fault and you.
Here is the tell. Open the board and look for a test button.
No test button, no RCD. A fuse looks after the wiring; a safety switch looks after the person holding the drill.
The fix is not always a whole new board. Sometimes RCBOs go into the existing one, and sometimes the board is too far gone and a full upgrade is the honest answer.
Which one it is, we say straight, and you see the written price before deciding. A safety switch on every circuit is where the rules landed, and they landed there for good reason.
An Electrical Emergency in Malabar? Act Fast
Some faults are a Monday problem. These are not.
If any of this is happening, stop using the circuit and ring (02) 9134 9029.
- Hot plastic or fish smells at the board
- Scorching or sooty marks on a socket
- A safety switch that trips straight back out
- One room dead while everything else runs
- Switches or plugs that feel warm
- Cable you can see, damaged or bare
First, work out whose problem it is. If the whole street is dark, the outage is Ausgrid's, and nothing we do will beat their crew to it.
If your place is the only dark one, then everything from the switchboard inwards belongs to us.
While you wait, switch the circuit off at the board and keep well back from anything sparking. Damaged cable stays exactly where it is, even to tidy it out of the way.
How we work
How We Work on Every Job
Four steps, and no surprises in any of them.
The price lands before we start, you can watch what is happening while we are there, and you know exactly what changed when we go. A power point runs the same way a rewire does.
- 01
Tell Us What It Is Doing
Ring (02) 9134 9029 and describe the fault. A real person answers the phone, works out what we are walking into, and we book you in for a time that suits.
- 02
Look, Test, Then Quote
The van turns up and we chase the fault to its actual source, not just the obvious one, then hand you a fixed written price before we start. Quoting costs nothing and happens at your place.
- 03
Do the Work, Leave It Tidy
Drop sheets down and the place left tidy, and the quote you accepted still stands, even when the job turns out bigger than it looked.
- 04
Test It, Certify It, Show You
Everything gets tested before we sign off. You get the Certificate of Compliance on notifiable electrical work, and a walk round the job before we leave so nothing is a mystery.
Why So Many Locals Choose Us
Families own most of the houses here, and they are not planning to move. That shifts what matters: work that holds up, a sparkie who picks up when you ring back years later, and everything written down.
We Answer, and We Turn Up
Bookings are often same or next day, and a genuine emergency goes straight to the front. You get an honest ETA, and a phone call if we are held up rather than silence.
The Guarantee Does Not Run Out
Our workmanship carries a lifetime workmanship guarantee, and we come back and fix it at no cost. A 12-month product warranty sits on top of whatever the maker's own warranty gives you.
$50 Off, and a Free Quote on Top
There is $50 off your first service. The quote that comes before it is free, done on site, with no call-out fee, so you can find out what the job costs and still walk away.

How we compare
Compare Us to the Typical Sparkie
Most sparkies are fine. The gap opens in the dull details: what the quote actually says, what happens when it turns out wrong, and whether anyone can tell you what is in your walls.

Safe and Compliant on Every Job
Bad electrical work hides. You do not see it, you do not smell it, and then one day it introduces itself.
Everything here is done to the rules and signed off by someone whose licence is on the line if it is not.
Licensed, and You Can Check It
Our NSW Electrical Contractor Licence is a public record. Put it into the Fair Trading licence checker and it comes up, which is exactly what you should do with any sparkie who quotes you.
Master Electricians Australia Members
An independent body sets that bar, not us. Membership is voluntary, and we hold it because the bar is the point.
Wired to AS/NZS 3000
The AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules are the national standard, and nothing leaves here wired to anything else. Not to what the last bloke did, and not to whatever is quickest.
Fully Insured, Every Job
Workers comp and public liability, both live, on every job we do. We do not publish the figure, but the cover is in place before anyone climbs into your roof.
Licensed, insured & guaranteed
Licensed, Insured and Accredited
Short version, if you skipped the rest. You can check every one of these yourself, rather than take our word.

Common questions
Electrician FAQs
These come up on the phone constantly, so here they are with straight answers. Anything not on this list, ring and ask, because a question never costs anyone a cent.
Do I get a Certificate of Compliance after the work?
Yes, on notifiable electrical work. The Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work gets lodged with NSW Fair Trading, and your copy turns up with photos of the job attached.
What electrical services do you offer?
Switchboard upgrades, light installation, EV chargers, Level 2 work, urgent call-outs, general residential electrical, and data and comms cabling. If it is electrical and it sits in a house, it is ours.
What suburbs do you service around Malabar?
Maroubra and Matraville are next door, and Coogee, Kingsford and Pagewood are all on our regular run. Ring and ask about anywhere else nearby; the answer is usually yes.
Is my old switchboard dangerous?
No, not by default. But a board running ceramic fuses with no RCDs leaves every circuit unprotected, and if you cannot tell what is in yours, ring and ask.
Are your electricians licensed and insured?
Yes. NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C, Master Electricians Australia membership, and current insurance, all verifiable with Fair Trading in about a minute.
Is there an electrician near Malabar open on weekends?
Our normal hours run Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm. Outside those we stay reachable for genuine emergencies, so a weekend fault that cannot wait gets a real answer, not a voicemail.
